The Spy in Black is a classic World War I espionage thriller by J. Storer Clouston. Set in 1917, the story follows Lieutenant Conrad von Belke, a German naval submarine commander who is covertly put ashore on the remote Orkney Islands near the British naval base at Scapa Flow. Posing as a civilian, von Belke's objective is to rendezvous with a local contact and secure intelligence to launch a devastating attack on the British Grand Fleet. Uniquely written largely from the enemy intelligence officer's perspective, the novel delivers a tense game of counter espionage, hidden identities, and dramatic double crosses.
